How We Built a VR Training Scenario in Just 3 Hours
In today’s fast-paced industrial environment, the ability to translate engineering data and SOPs into immersive training solutions quickly is a game-changer.
That’s exactly what we achieved with our recent demo for a leading Heavy Construction Company– a fully interactive, voice-narrated VR training scenario, built from scratch in just a few hours.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we pulled it off using CAD data, AI-powered tools, and an agile development pipeline.
Step 1: CAD Model Import
It all began with Customers sharing their 3D model in STEP format, exported from Creo. This neutral CAD format allowed for a smooth import into our VR pipeline without complex preprocessing.
What’s more, Exxar isn’t limited to just one CAD platform—it supports a wide range of industry-standard formats, including CATIA, SolidWorks, NX, Inventor, Solid Edge, and more. This flexibility allows engineering teams to work directly with their existing CAD data, eliminating redundant conversion steps while preserving geometric accuracy for immersive, real-time training experiences.
Step 2: Model Optimization in Pixyz
Once the model was imported, we moved to Pixyz Studio for quick optimization. In this stage, we:
- Fixed materials for accurate visual rendering in VR
- Renamed parts to simplify scripting and interactions
- Added contextual assets like tables and fixtures to complete the training environment
This step ensured the virtual scene was clean, organized, and ready for interaction.
Step 3: Smart Storyboarding Using AI
Rather than traditional scripts or PDFs, Customer provided its Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
We ran these through Exxar’s AI Storyboarding Tool, which automatically converted them into:
- Step-by-step training flows
- Context-aware actions and annotations
- Clear transitions between tasks
This dramatically reduced manual effort and ensured training logic matched real-world operations.
Step 4: Instant Voiceovers with Exxar AI
With the storyboard in place, we used Exxar’s AI Voiceover tool to generate crisp, instructional audio in a US male accent.
This enabled us to:
- Maintain professional narration quality
- Avoid delays from manual recording
- Seamlessly sync voiceovers with VR actions
The voice layer brought clarity and engagement to the entire experience.
Step 5: VR Authoring in Under 3 Hours
Using the optimized model, storyboard, and narration, we began building the actual VR experience.
Within just 3 hours, we created:
- Interactive pick-and-place tasks
- On-screen labels and visual cues
- Guided JobCard Instructions for the trainee
The final simulation was fully immersive, SOP-compliant, and ready for deployment—all in a single work session.
The Final Result
What typically takes weeks to develop, we delivered in just a few hours—a complete, AI-powered VR training module tailored for the customer’s workflow.
This project illustrates the immense potential of tools like Exxar AI to transform industrial training into an agile, scalable process.
The intuitive Exxar authoring interface allowed us to move quickly from planning to a polished simulation.
Why This Matters
- ✅ Faster Training Rollouts: Build VR modules in hours, not weeks
- ✅ CAD-to-VR Integration: No need to rebuild from scratch
- ✅ AI-Powered Workflow: Storyboarding and voiceovers generated instantly
- ✅ Field-Ready Output: Fully compliant with SOPs and plant conditions
